Into the Half-light
Senior exhibition of works by Aaron Earley
BFA candidate in Sculpture and Painting/Drawing
"Into the Half-light" is a phrase I deemed appropriate for this exhibition, as essentially I am referencing several subjects that are currently experiencing the twilight years of their lives. Similarly, the natural and man-made objects integrated into my work were discovered after they had already begun phasing out of existence. Of the Boeing B-17 and the 12,700 that were made during World War II, less than ten still exist intact. Conservation efforts are costly and few in number. Similarly, the crewmen that first flew them are reaching the ends of their lives as well. Within the next 5 - 10 years, the histories of these men and the aircraft they flew will officially be handed over as something of the intangible past. Much in the same, the Rorschach inkblot test is falling out of use, as many leaders in the fields of psychiatry view it as wholly unreliable, if not dangerously misleading.
The four series of work represented in this exhibition are from my senior years in Sculpture and Painting/Drawing, and in those two years I have found myself working on these series simultaneously. The past six months or so has resulted in the most recent work - strange amalgamations that involve overlapping ideas from the four series.
